Privacy Statement

Gang ("Gang", "we", "us") is a school-based polls and compliments app.

If you do not agree with this Privacy Statement, please do not use the app.

A. Information you provide

• Account and authentication information: your phone number is required to create and authenticate your account. We may also collect your name, nickname, school, and profile details you choose to add.
• School information: the school you select.
• Profile photo (optional): if you upload one.
• Contacts (optional): if you grant permission, we use contacts to help match you with classmates.
• Location (optional): if you grant foreground location permission, we use your location while you are using the app to sort nearby schools.
• Support messages: bug reports, feedback, and related requests.

B. Information created by use

• Poll participation data: prompts answered, selected options, timestamps, and required session metadata.
• Compliments and inbox content: compliments and related delivery details.
• Reports and moderation signals: reported content, block actions, and related evidence for review.
• Subscription and purchase information: subscription status, entitlement state, customer identifiers, receipts or transaction identifiers, and purchase state from RevenueCat, Apple, and Google.

C. Information collected automatically

• Device and app data: device type, OS, app version, language, time zone, and identifiers needed for authentication and anti-abuse.
• Push notification data: push tokens and related device data are collected if you enable notifications.
• Log data: approximate timestamps, error logs, and performance events.
• Analytics data: app events and usage patterns, including analytics processed through PostHog, to improve product decisions.

D. Optional permissions and choices

• Contacts are optional and are used for classmate matching only when you grant permission.
• Location is optional, requested as foreground access, and used to sort nearby schools.
• Profile photo uploads are optional.
• Push tokens and notification-related device data are collected only if notifications are enabled.

We use information to:

• provide and operate the app (sign-in, school selection, polls, and inbox delivery),
• maintain anonymity and integrity of the experience (fraud prevention, abuse detection, and rate limiting),
• improve the product (debugging, analytics, testing, and iteration),
• provide support and respond to requests,
• enforce rules and keep users safe, and
• comply with legal obligations.

Gang is designed so that compliments and votes are anonymous to recipients.

• Recipients do not see who voted for them.
• We may store internal identifiers associated with votes or compliments to operate the system, prevent abuse, enforce policy, and support optional features like reveal.
• We do not sell sender identity.
• We do not publicly display who sent a compliment.

We share information only in these situations:

A. Service providers

We use third-party services to host data, authenticate users, run backend workflows, send notifications, run analytics, manage subscriptions, and monitor errors. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual restrictions.

• Firebase Auth for phone authentication and account sign-in.
• Firebase Firestore for app data such as accounts, schools, polls, compliments, reports, and operational records.
• Firebase Cloud Functions for backend app logic, moderation, integrity checks, and notifications workflows.
• Firebase Storage for user-uploaded files such as profile photos.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications and device push tokens when notifications are enabled.
• PostHog for product analytics and usage events.
• RevenueCat for subscription entitlements, customer identifiers, and purchase status.
• Apple App Store and Google Play for purchase processing, subscription state, receipt validation, billing management, and cancellation controls.

B. Legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce policies, detect fraud, or protect the rights and safety of users, the public, or Gang.

C. Business transfers

If Gang is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or asset sale, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this statement.

D. With your direction

We may share information when you ask us to, for example when you choose to share a compliment externally.

We keep information only as long as needed to provide the app, maintain safety, and comply with legal obligations.

Retention varies by data type:

• Account data is kept while your account is active.
• Poll and compliment data may be retained for app operation, safety, and integrity.
• Reports and enforcement records may be retained longer to handle repeat abuse and legal requirements.

You can delete your account in the app or request deletion as described in Section 8.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No system is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Gang is intended for users who are allowed to use the app under local law.

• If you are under the minimum age required in your country, do not use Gang.
• If we learn we collected personal data from a child without required consent, we will delete it.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• access the personal information we hold about you,
• correct inaccurate information,
• delete your account and associated information,
• object to or restrict certain processing, and
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

Account deletion

You can delete your account in-app from Profile > Settings > Account controls > Delete account. You may also request account deletion or removal of specific information using our deletion request form.

Account deletion removes or redacts normal app identity and account information where feasible. We may retain safety reports, enforcement and audit records, fraud prevention records, payment or subscription records, and records we must keep for legal obligations.

Deleting your Gang account does not cancel Apple App Store or Google Play subscriptions. You must cancel subscriptions through your Apple or Google account settings.

We may ask you to verify ownership before fulfilling requests.

We may store and process information in countries other than where you live. When we do, we take steps to protect your information consistent with this Privacy Statement and applicable law.

Gang may contain links to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies before using them.

We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. If changes are material, we may provide notice, for example in-app. The Last updated date shows when this statement was revised.
